My client is seeking a visionary Head of Perception to lead the development of a production-grade autonomy stack for orbital environments. This is a high-impact leadership role for a technical expert who wants to move beyond lab-based research and deploy sophisticated computer vision and perception software into space.

This is a rare opportunity to define how spacecraft perceive and interact with their environment. You will transition autonomous capabilities from R&D prototypes into flight-ready products, leading a multidisciplinary team to solve the most complex challenges in multi-sensor fusion and real‑time state estimation for the next generation of space missions.

The company is a pioneering aerospace technology firm specializing in autonomous space systems. They provide advanced software solutions that enable spacecraft to perceive, reason, and act independently in dynamic environments. Their mission is to set the global standard for computer vision and autonomy for both government and commercial partners.

As the Head of Perception, you will own the end-to-end architecture for the perception stack. You will drive technical strategy across multi-sensor ingest, world modeling, and relative navigation. Responsibilities include establishing rigorous engineering practices for high‑reliability software, designing for embedded edge hardware, and ensuring a secure, government‑ready delivery workflow. You will lead and mentor a growing team of over 10 engineers, bridging the gap between cutting‑edge research and practical, scalable mission capability.

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on systems architecture.
• Expert knowledge of Computer Vision and Machine Learning within production‑grade systems.
• Proven experience developing software for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or unmanned systems.
• High proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional technical teams.
• Knowledge of GPU-based programming (CUDA) and performance optimization techniques.

• An active U.S. Security Clearance.
• Previous experience developing and deploying space‑certified flight systems.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native architectures and secure Dev Sec Ops  pipelines.
• A strong professional network within the autonomous systems or aerospace engineering community.
