Summer Intern AI Application Developer

ATI builds and manages collaborations that conduct research and development of new technologies to solve our nation's most pressing challenges. Our collaborations are custom-built teams of organizations from industry and academia that develop novel technologies for the federal government. This is a paid internship with a hybrid in-office schedule.

Estimated hours: 20-40 hours per week.

Pay: $20.00 per hour.

We offer a hybrid schedule (in-office & remote/work from home) or an onsite schedule and flexible hours. Candidates will need to reside near Charleston, SC to ensure work site flexibility.

• Build rapid turn prototypes that demonstrate AI-enabled capabilities aligned with ATI use cases.
• Integrate commercial AI models into simple applications, dashboards, and workflows.
• Translate loosely defined use cases and problem statements into functional technical solutions.
• Support experimentation with agents, automation scripts, and lightweight applications.
• Document code, approaches, and lessons learned to support reuse and scalability within the team.
• Positively contribute to the ATI team through collaboration, communication, and continuous learning.
• Learn and gain experience through job shadowing and hands-on project work.

• Assist with iterative development tasks as needed.
• Participate in discussions and demos related to ongoing R&D and prototyping activities.
• Other duties as required.

• Recent college graduate or currently enrolled college student, preferably with a degree or major in Artificial Intelligence, AI-focused programs, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Data Science (technical track).
• Proficiency in Python, with working familiarity in PyTorch or Tensor Flow.
• Exposure to LLM frameworks, applications, and tools such as Lang Chain, Codex, n8n.
• Basic understanding of prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and API integration.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative development environment with minimal direction.
• Critical thinking and creative problem solving mindset.
• Individual must meet the definition of "a U.S. person" upon hire due to the risk assessment of this position and access to documents.
