Senior PHP Backend Engineer (Symfony / Laravel) Role Overview

We are looking for experienced Senior PHP Backend Engineers to join a growing development team in Athens and contribute to the development, maintenance, and evolution of large-scale web platforms and business-critical applications.

The team is primarily focused on Symfony 6.4 and PHP 8.2+, while some projects are built on Laravel 12
. Strong Symfony professionals will have the opportunity to work across multiple projects and technologies, collaborating closely with developers, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-quality software solutions.

This is a long-term engagement within a modern engineering environment that emphasizes code quality, testing, collaboration, and best development practices.

• Develop, maintain, and enhance backend applications using PHP and modern frameworks.
• Design and implement scalable REST APIs and backend services.
• Build and optimize database structures, queries, and application performance.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Write and maintain automated unit and feature tests.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support application stability.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical improvements.

• 4+ years of professional PHP development experience.
• Strong experience with PHP 8.x.
• Hands‑on experience with Symfony (5.x or 6.x), ideally Symfony 6.4.
• Experience with MySQL, database design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Familiarity with REST API development.
• Experience with Git and Docker.
• Knowledge of automated testing using PHPUnit or Pest.
• Strong understanding of software development best practices and code quality standards.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate within agile teams.

• Laravel framework experience.
• Doctrine ORM.
• Symfony Messenger.
• OAuth2 / SSO integrations.
• Stripe payment integrations.
• Webhooks and event‑driven architectures.
• PHPStan, Rector, Pint, or other code quality tools.
• Multi‑tenant SaaS environments.
• Experience integrating with enterprise systems such as SAP, Salesforce, or invoicing platforms.
• Cloud environments (GCP/GKE).

• Initial onboarding period primarily on‑site in Athens to support project transition and knowledge transfer.
• Hybrid working model afterwards (3 days per week on‑site).
• Long‑term collaboration with a minimum engagement of one year.
