Software Engineer opportunities in multiple locations, including San Diego, Dallas, Santa Barbara, remote options (San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Washington DC). App Folio’s main product is the App Folio Property Manager, a web-based platform for managers of apartment buildings to schedule maintenance, track finances, and communicate with tenants. A companion tenant app enables rent payments, renter’s insurance, and maintenance requests. Our product vision emphasizes making living, owning, and managing communities magical and effortless.

Engineers work in small, cross-functional teams with a product manager, UX designer, QA engineer, and 3–6 software engineers. We closely engage with customers and participate in customer calls. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a 6-person cross-functional product development team focused on enhancing the accounting module of App Folio Property Manager. The team owns features that integrate with financial institutions and pull data into our product, with ongoing work to support additional account types and data input methods.
Your impact- Become a master of software engineering craft and collaborate with engineers who are eager to teach and learn from you.
- Develop scalable, robust, and simple web-based solutions to solve complex business problems for customers.
- Formulate, implement, and evaluate algorithms and database queries to support SaaS scalability and stability.
- Implement new features and optimize existing ones to maximize scalability, stability, and performance.
- Use test-driven development, code reviews, and continuous integration to deliver high‑quality software and rapidly fix issues.
- Work closely with, and incorporate feedback from, other engineers, QA, product owners, and customers (APM).
- Leverage agile practices to release small batches of value to customers continuously, including test-driven development, pair programming, live code reviews, CI, and CD.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience as a full-stack software engineer.
- Hands-on experience developing web-based applications, preferably in a SaaS environment.
- Creativity and the ability to solve complex problems without a roadmap.
- Knowledge of Ruby on Rails and experience with Ruby, Java, or Python.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, Redux, AWS, and SOA.
- Familiarity with Agile software development processes (Scrum or Kanban).
- Familiarity with Test-Driven Development.
- Experience working across all levels of the development stack is preferred.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners like PM and UX to drive technical solutions.
- Experience across all levels of the development stack.

- Experience with AI-driven development and integrating Large Language Models into production workflows.

The base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $138,400 – $173,000. The actual base salary will be determined by factors including skills, education, and experience. Base pay is one aspect of a broader Total Rewards package.
