RoleThe App Platform team at Whatnot builds the shared foundations that power every mobile experience. As an Android engineer on this team, you will contribute to core mobile infrastructure focusing on stability, performance, and observability across the entire app. This includes building and maintaining frameworks that make our mobile apps resilient, fast, and measurable; enabling teams across Whatnot to deliver world‑class experiences to our users.
You’ll help scale and refine our Android stack, design tools and patterns to enable developer velocity, and lead efforts to monitor and understand every session, stream, and tap. From crash segmentation to stream health diagnostics, you’ll define what excellence looks like on Whatnot's Android app.
Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our hubs in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York City, London, or Krakow.

Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain high‑quality Android infrastructure and libraries.
- Ensure stability, performance, and observability across our mobile app.
- Build and refine monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics for crash segmentation, stream health, and user interaction.
- Promote and enforce best practices in mobile development, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and reactive patterns.
- Own projects from inception to production and beyond, shipping high‑quality features.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to translate user needs into technical solutions.
- Lead initiatives that improve developer velocity and product quality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of full‑time software engineering experience in high‑growth startups.
- Expertise in creating fluid, responsive user interfaces on Android.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Experience with reactive programming using Kotlin Coroutines and Flows.
- Fluent in MVI or MVVM development.
- Product instinct: the ability to translate user needs into effective technical solutions.
- Problem‑solving: thrives in ambiguity and tackles challenging problems with creativity and autonomy.
- Team leadership: proactively improves the team environment and fosters an inclusive, supportive culture.
- Ownership mindset: owns projects from inception to production and beyond, shipping high‑quality products and features.
For full‑time US‑based applicants: $165,000/year to $216,000/year + benefits + equity. The salary range may include several levels applicable to the position; final salary will be based on factors such as level, relevant experience, skills, and expertise. This range is only for base salary; benefits and equity are additional.
