Senior Backend Engineer; Remote

Overview

Senior Backend Engineer. Role located in New York, NY or remote. Benji - Infrastructure layer for loyalty and brand connectivity.

• Build & Own Core Platform Services
• Design, build, and extend Python microservices (campaigns, users, rewards, orders, partner integrations)
• Implement event-driven workflows via messaging brokers
• Own relational and non-relational schema design, migrations, data integrity
• Integrate with Partners & External Systems
• Build integrations with loyalty programs, payment platforms, commerce systems (REST, OAuth, webhooks)
• Handle edge cases: rate limits, retries, idempotency, reconciliation
• Operate at Production Scale on AWS
• Deploy services: ECS Fargate, Aurora Postgre
  
  SQL, Redis, S3, Elasticsearch
• Work with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code
• Instrument services with Open Telemetry and structured logging
• Build AI-Native Engineering Workflows
• Design agent-ready standards and MCP servers
• Integrate LLMs into product workflows
• Write prompts, tool definitions, and guardrails for production-grade AI output

• Experience:
  
  7+ years backend or full-stack with strong backend focus
• Technical
  
  Skills:
• Strong Python (Flask or similar)
• Postgre
  
  SQL, REST APIs, event-driven architectures (queues, pub/sub)
• Distributed systems: idempotency, retries, eventual consistency
• AWS (ECS, RDS/Aurora, SQS, S3)
• LLM and AI developer tooling experience (agents, MCPs, CLIs)
• Familiarity with prompt design and integrating LLMs into product workflows
• Attributes:
• Comfortable owning services end-to-end
• AI-first engineer - uses agents and LLMs daily
• Excited about scalable, enterprise-ready systems

• Loyalty, fintech, commerce, or API platform domains (Stripe, Plaid, Square)
• Terraform, Elasticsearch, Vue/Type Script
• Agent context authoring, AWS Bedrock, Open Telemetry

• Own core platform services powering enterprise loyalty flows
• Real-world integration complexity (partners, payments, webhooks)
• Define AI-native engineering standards for the team
