Sr Staff Engineer- (Java, Microservices, Agentic AI, Kubernetes Hybrid

GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to build and scale the next generation file transfer and file sharing platform to serve GEICO’s internal services and trusted external partners. This role helps drive our insurance business transformation by redefining customer experiences.

This is a hybrid role, 2x a week.

• Focus on multiple areas and provide technical and thought leadership to design, build, and product ionize an enterprise application.
• Develop and execute a technical software development strategy across various domains.
• Be accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
• Influence and educate leadership at all levels.
• Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
• Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, and demonstrate adaptability and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with application teams and business partners to standardize file sharing practices and partner to scale the product from 0 to 1.

• Deep hands‑on experience in complex system design and development of multi‑tier distributed systems.
• Fluent in at least two OOP languages (Java, Go, Python, C++, etc.).
• Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production.
• Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
• In‑depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
• Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.
• Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
• Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, test automation and related tools, operations, real‑time communication).
• Experience in CI/CD pipelines and related open‑source tools (Git, Jenkins, Circle
  
  CI, Sonar Qube) and knowledge of Terraform/Ansible is a big plus.
• Knowledge of open‑source monitoring software (Grafana, Prometheus).
• Familiarity with other messaging and event solutions (Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hub) is a plus.

• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• 8+ years of experience building scalable three‑tier production applications that serve millions of customers.
• 6+ years of experience with open‑source frameworks.
• 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure and Dev Ops practices.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
