Precision Neuroscience is building a next‑generation brain‑computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions.

Our first product, Layer 7, is designed to help people with severe paralysis operate digital devices using only their thoughts—opening up new possibilities for daily life.

Our team brings together experts in neurosurgery, AI and machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, clinical science, and more. We combine deep technical rigor with a people‑first mindset to turn breakthrough research into real‑world medical solutions.

As a Precision employee, you’ll join one of the fastest‑moving and best‑capitalized companies in the emerging field of brain‑computer interfaces. Since our founding in 2021, we have raised more than $180 million, advanced our technology through validation, and initiated human trials with leading hospitals across the country.

Our Values
  • Build for human impact, measuring progress by the lives our work can change.
  • Do no harm, holding ourselves to the highest standards of safety, integrity, and responsibility.
  • Innovate with urgency, because the stakes are high and our users can’t wait.
  • Bring sharp minds, open ears, pairing expertise with curiosity, humility, and respect.
  • Lead the way, taking ownership of our work and helping to shape the future of our field.

We are seeking an exceptional Real‑Time Software Engineer to join our mission of advancing brain‑computer interface technology. You will design and develop core components of Precision’s ultra‑high‑bandwidth neurological data pipeline, novel device interfaces, and mission‑critical patient‑side infrastructure. The right candidate will have the unique opportunity to own large‑scale efforts from rapid prototyping through deployment in a transformational space. Reports into the Senior Director, Software Engineering.

This position will be based in our Manhattan, Santa Clara, Chicago, Indianapolis, or Addison office. We are unable to consider remote workers or individuals who are not currently based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with product and software teams to design and develop data pipeline components to acquire, stream, and process ultra‑high‑bandwidth, multi‑mode neurological data.
  • Work with the machine learning team to design components and interfaces to enable real‑time neurological decoding.
  • Develop control and telemetry components to interface with both implantable and consumer mobile devices.
  • Perform rapid prototyping cycles to discover and evaluate new concepts and de‑risk technical pathways.
  • Operate within an IEC 62304‑compliant Software Development Life Cycle, meeting necessary compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide necessary training and support for field and clinical teams (up to 10% travel).
  • Generate supporting documentation as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in real‑time, embedded, or middleware engineering.
  • Proven track record of full‑life‑cycle development through deployment to production.
  • 1+ year of experience working with AI tooling in a commercial setting.
  • Proven experience working with connected devices or IoT frameworks.
  • Experience working in a regulated space.
  • Experience interacting with edge Machine Learning implementations.
