Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Headspace is on a mission to provide every person access to lifelong mental health support. The Core Platform group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build core capabilities required to onboard and grow our B2B customer installations. Core capabilities include authentication, payments, entitlements, and shared services across our B2B and direct-to-consumer customers.

What you will do:

• Lead projects from requirements gathering through implementation, collaborating closely with product, design, and data engineering stakeholders.
• Contribute to and influence the evolution of overall system architecture and quality of our core platform services.
• Design, ship, and monitor new features with robust testing and quality standards.
• Effectively communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build high-impact user workflows with a strong focus on user experience.
• Set standards for quality and technical excellence through code and design reviews, and improve engineering processes.
• Provide constructive feedback and support teammates’ growth.

What you will bring:

Required Skills:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 4+ years of professional development experience, building APIs and services.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate remotely.
• Successful delivery of complex full‑stack projects.
• Strong expertise in Python (Django) and Typescript (Node.js).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to make sound technical decisions based on requirements, constraints, and trade‑offs.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing.

Preferred

Skills:

• Experience with AWS platforms.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Terraform.
• Experience building health tech software.

Location: This role is open to candidates across the US. Preferred locations include San Francisco, CA (hybrid), New York City, NY (remote), and Seattle, WA (remote). Candidates must permanently reside in the US full‑time.

Compensation: Base salary range: $122,400‑$195,500, with additional equity and benefits. For San Francisco, New York City, or Seattle, the range is $156,400‑$195,500.
