The Role
Lambda, the superintelligence cloud, is a leader in AI cloud infrastructure serving tens of thousands of customers. Our customers range from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. Lambda's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and give everyone the power of superintelligence. One person, one GPU.
If you'd like to build the world's best AI cloud, join us.
This position requires presence in our San Francisco/San Jose/Bellevue office location 4 days per week;
Lambda's designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.
The Senior Platform Engineer plays a key role in accelerating software delivery across Lambda by building and evolving the internal platforms, tooling, and workflows that engineers rely on every day. As part of the Platform Engineering team, this position focuses on improving the developer experience, streamlining the software delivery lifecycle, and creating scalable self-service solutions that enable more than 200 engineers to build, test, and ship software efficiently and reliably.
Working closely with engineering teams across the company, the Senior Platform Engineer identifies friction points in development and release processes and designs durable solutions through developer platforms, CI/CD infrastructure, release engineering tooling, and opinionated paved paths. The position contributes directly to Lambda's ability to scale engineering productivity, maintain high delivery velocity, and support the company's continued growth by making the right engineering workflows easier, faster, and more reliable.
You'll Do
- Accelerate software delivery by designing and building internal tools and services that reduce friction for engineering teams.
- Own and evolve our CI/CD infrastructure, not just maintain it, but rethink how it should work as we scale.
- Build and maintain paved paths: reusable patterns and templates that make the right defaults obvious and easy to follow.
- Build release engineering tooling that gives engineers confidence and control over how their code ships.
- Identify bottlenecks in developer workflows through close collaboration with engineering teams, then build lasting solutions, not workarounds.
- Contribute to the architectural decisions that will shape how 200+ engineers build and ship software and images.
- Help shape how the Platform Engineering team itself operates: our processes, priorities, and our push toward a self-service engineering org.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and keep the systems you own well-documented, reliable, and observable.
- 5+ years of experience in platform engineering, release engineering, developer tooling, or a closely related discipline.
- You write production-quality software and treat internal tooling as a product: real users, real quality standards, and things that actually get adopted (Go and/or Python preferred).
- Deep experience with CI/CD systems (e.g. Buildkite, Git Hub Actions), not just configuring them, but extending and building on top of them.
- Strong foundation in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and cloud environments (AWS or GCP).
- Experience designing and building agentic workflows that automate meaningful parts of the software delivery lifecycle.
- Builds for the many, not for one team or one use case.
- Distills the right problem out of the noise: asks the why behind the why.
- Outcome driven and measures the impact of what you ship.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by defining the problem before solving it.
- Experience driving AI tooling adoption across an engineering org.
- Led large-scale platform or tooling migrations.
- Experience managing AWS environments at scale: accounts, permissions, and resource organization.
- Familiarity with GPU infrastructure or high-performance computing environments.
The annual salary range for this position has been set based on market data and other factors. However, a salary higher or lower than this range may be appropriate for a candidate whose qualifications differ meaningfully from those listed in the job description.
