Full

Stack Engineer

For a brief overview of Shelterluv and working here, check out the careers page .

Shelterluv is looking to hire an experienced full-stack Laravel developer. Our engineering team is remote, so you can work from anywhere in the United States.

We are looking for a full-time W2 employee, so corp-to-corp and agencies need not apply.

What You'll Be Doing

Our platform currently has multiple applications. While we primarily utilize a Laravel Livewire stack for our core application, some systems also use Vue and Nuxt. Our developers are expected to be able to implement interactive front-end experiences using tools like Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS, as well as write robust, well-tested, back-end code in Laravel.

This role will be focused on supporting and expanding on our core Shelterluv application, which is used by animal shelters and rescues. Your work will include supporting and maintaining existing features, as well as building out new functionality planned and designed by our product team.

You also may be asked to assist with work on our other applications when needed.

We're looking for someone who not only cares about writing good code but is excited about building apps to directly help save the lives of animals. Because we're still a young company with a small product team, each of our engineers has a lot of ownership in the technical and UX direction of new features. Our ideal hire is someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment: taking initiative on new ideas, collaborating with other engineers and product managers, and challenging the status quo when necessary.

But even though we're a startup, we all know that the best code will only happen when we’re working a reasonable number of hours, so except in highly unusual circumstances, we don’t put in more than 40 hours/week.

We'd love to talk to you if you're an engineer with some combination of the below:
  • Several years of experience building apps with Laravel
  • Experience using Livewire and Alpine

    JS to build interactive UIs
  • Knowledge of PHPUnittesting
  • A solid understanding of how to build / interact with APIs and microservices
  • Enthusiasm for learning about and moving between our differentstacks
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Assess and determine the order of priority for a set of tasks, across multiple projects, that align with product and engineering goals.
  • Working on higher priority or more complex tickets without supervision.
  • Working with our product team and other engineering team members to take initial objectives and shape them into technical requirements or documentation.
  • Collaborating with other engineers when cross stack and/or cross functional (i.e. frontend / backend) work needs to be done.
  • Writing clean, maintainable code. Improving legacy systems and leaving them better than how you found them.
  • Staying up-to-date with best practices and patterns and sharing those with other engineers.
  • Assisting with triage in their area of work during outages or other issues.
  • Staying vigilant on code standards and testing requirements.
  • Providing feedback in pull requests and potentially being the final say in approval / declining of them as needed.
  • Document and clearly communicate testing instructions for team members performing QA.
  • Releasing approved code to environments, including production.
We don’t expect you to walk in knowing all the tools we use, but you’ll get bonus points if you have some amount of experience with:
  • AWS
  • Experience interacting with internal and/or third partyAPIs
