Role OverviewAmerican Express is seeking an experienced Back End Java Engineer to join the Customer
360 - Customer Domain team. This team is responsible for building and enhancing services that support a holistic, enterprise wide view of customers. This is a 100% hands on engineering role, focused on designing, developing, and delivering high quality backend APIs. The ideal candidate is a strong Java developer who enjoys working end to end—from analysis and design through implementation, testing, and delivery—and is comfortable working in a fast paced, highly technical environment.

360 Customer Domain - Supporting new REST API development
- Building backend services that integrate customer data across platforms
- Working closely with other engineers, architects, and product partners within the Customer
360 ecosystem
- Perform hands on backend development using Java
- Participate in requirement analysis and technical design
- Develop and enhance RESTful APIs
- Implement asynchronous and non blocking processing patterns
- Write clean, maintainable, and well tested code
- Conduct unit testing and support integration testing
- Collaborate with team members on design decisions and implementation approaches
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across application layers
- Ensure code quality, performance, and scalability
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices
- 3+ years of professional experience as a Java Engineer (ideally 5+)
- Strong experience building RESTful APIs
- Hands on experience with asynchronous programming in Java
- Non blocking or concurrent processing
- Async service-to-service communication
- Experience working with databases, including:
- SQL databases (e.g., relational databases)
- No
SQL databases (e.g., document or key value stores)
- Strong understanding of backend development best practices
- Experience performing analysis, design, coding, and testing independently
- Experience working in large enterprise environments
- Exposure to customer data or customer identity domains
- Familiarity with modern backend architectures
- Ability to thrive in hybrid onsite/remote work models
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite per week in Sunrise, FL
- Collaborative team setting supporting long term enterprise initiatives
- Stable, long term engagement (3+ years)
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
