Planet’s Mission Control is a web‑based application that empowers spacecraft operators and analysts to monitor, control, and study our growing fleet of satellites. It is supported by distributed microservices that handle spacecraft scheduling, tasking, telemetry processing, and other operational needs.
About the RoleYou’ll be a part of a team that builds, maintains, and operates these tools to provide a seamless interface for spacecraft operators, analysts, and engineers s is a full‑time, remote position based in the United States or Canada. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office three days per week.
Impact You’ll Own- Maintain and augment the automation and services responsible for the operation of Planet’s satellites.
- Specify and implement new HTTP APIs and improve existing ones.
- Evaluate and select appropriate software technologies.
- Design and deploy critical infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Satellite and Ground Operations, Pipeline, and Product teams to ensure the constellation meets mission needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Experience in API design.
- Experience with automated testing, code review, and documentation.
- Experience with relational database technologies such as Postgres or MySQL.
- Experience maintaining peer‑reviewed code, continuous integration, and deployment workflows (e.g., Git Lab CI, Docker).
- Self‑starter ability to solve problems in a dynamic environment.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience building services that leverage cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
- Experience maintaining infrastructure with automation tools such as Ansible, Kubernetes, Terraform.
- Experience using monitoring tools like Datadog or Sentry.
- Experience working in microservice environments.
- Knowledge of aerospace concepts.

US base salary ranges: $136,000 – $170,000 USD (NYC/CA), $144,500 – $180,600 USD (SF), $127,000 – $158,700 USD (US National). Bonus and equity may be offered.
