Epoch Games is a volunteer-based, all-online, global game development team. The Co‑Founders originally created the total conversion Middle Earth Role playing Project (MERP) mod for Elder Scrolls V:
Skyrim. They are currently developing The Lays of Althas:

Job Description

Volunteer Level Designer to create landscapes and building interiors for LoA:

SO in Unreal Engine 4, based on concepts and layouts. Use resourceful asset workflows, and optionally apply Houdini tools. Experience with Blueprint scripting and Quixel Megascans is recommended.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and build polished landscapes and building interiors in Unreal Engine 4.
  • Provide assets, optimize via Level of Detail (LOD) systems.
  • Use Houdini tooling where applicable; familiarity is a plus.
  • Implement Blueprint scripts and Quixel Megascans when required.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and 3D artists regarding asset needs.
  • Assist junior members in teaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Follow team policies, attend meetings through Slack, and contribute to the collaborative pipeline.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to create detailed landscapes and building interiors in Unreal Engine 4.
  • Ability to optimize with use of Level of Detail (LOD) systems.
Recommended Requirements
  • Houdini experience for procedural development tools in UE4.
  • Unreal Engine 4 Blueprint scripting experience.
  • Quixel Megascans Asset Library usage.
  • Heightmap development experience.
Required Software
  • Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4 ()
Optional Software
  • SideFX Houdini ()
  • Heightmapping software like Quad Spinner Gaea ()
Minimum Hardware Requirements
  • Capability to run Unreal Engine 4.
  • Disk space and internet speeds sufficient to pull at least 25 GB of game files.
