Staff Full Stack Engineer

We are hiring an exceptional Staff Full Stack Engineer to join our Core Engineering team  this senior technical role, you'll help drive the evolution of Healthie's platform across both legacy systems and new product development, balancing thoughtful modernization with pragmatic execution in a fast-moving healthcare environment. As a Staff Engineer, you'll partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Platform, and Engineering teams to architect, build, and scale systems that power critical healthcare workflows for providers and patients.

Your work will span backend and frontend development, platform improvements, API design, system architecture, performance optimization, and developer experience initiatives across both established and greenfield areas of our platform. This role requires strong technical judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity, complexity, and scale. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of Healthie's architecture while also improving and maintaining highly utilized production systems that support millions of patient interactions and billions of API calls.

You'll help lead technical direction across the organization, mentor engineers, raise the engineering bar, and influence how we build scalable, reliable, and maintainable software. We are looking for someone who can balance long-term technical vision with hands-on execution and who thrives working across a wide range of systems, teams, and problem spaces. We are looking for team members who actively leverage AI-powered development tools, embrace automation, and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices to increase both velocity and quality.

About you

You have 8+ years of experience building and scaling production software systems, including experience working across both legacy and greenfield environments. You have strong full stack engineering experience and are comfortable owning projects across backend systems, frontend applications, APIs, infrastructure-adjacent work, and system integrations. You have direct experience with our tech stack:
Rails, React, Type Script, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, RSpec, and Capybara. You have deep experience with software architecture, systems design, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization in complex production environments. You understand how to thoughtfully evolve legacy systems while balancing business needs, technical debt, speed, and long-term maintainability. You are highly collaborative and excel at partnering cross-functionally with engineering, product, design, and operational stakeholders.

You are comfortable leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and influencing architectural decisions across teams without relying on formal authority. You thrive in fast-paced startup environments and are able to balance strategic thinking with pragmatic execution. You have strong product and customer intuition and care deeply about building reliable, intuitive systems that improve outcomes for healthcare organizations and patients. You have a strong sense of software stewardship and continuously look for opportunities to improve systems, developer experience, operational excellence, and engineering quality over time. Bonus experience working within healthcare, healthtech, HIPAA-regulated, or highly compliant environments. Experience contributing to platform modernization initiatives, monolith decomposition, or large-scale architectural migrations. Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering workflows, developer tooling, or automation to improve engineering velocity and quality.

Details

This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. The salary range is $205,000 - $235,000. U.S. work authorization is required and Healthie does not provide sponsorship. Interview process:
