Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, Backend Developer

As a Sr. Software Engineer, you will shape and improve the experience of key Vertafore customers. You will work cross-functionally across Vertafore, including Customer Support, Account Management, Product Management, and Product Development to help guide customers and contribute to the future growth of your team. You will collaborate with a fast-paced, skilled team of business analysts, conversion engineers, developers, and quality assurance engineers across multiple high-profile projects with development responsibility for assigned projects.
Much of your success in this role will depend on timely, clear, concise, and effective verbal and written communication along with developing solutions that fully meet customer expectations with minimal defects or rework.
- Innovates and crafts clean code
- Confidently work with customers to describe technical concepts and recommend appropriate solutions whether pure custom or a mix of custom and core Vertafore products
- Assist business analysts as needed with reviewing request information and documenting solution designs that align with customer expectations and business objectives/requirements
- Document, architect and develop forward-thinking technical specifications and solutions based on provided business requirements and/or specifications
- Create advanced tables, views, stored procedures, indexes, constraints, cursors, user‑defined functions and triggers using T‑SQL and SSMS
- Optimize query performance and tune indexes using Query Analyzer and other tools
- Extract, transform and load (ETL) data
- Responsible for interface design, documentation and unit testing
- Develop automated solution deployments as appropriate
- Deploy developed solutions within non‑production environments and assist with Vertafore production release deployments
- Work on/with small teams and complete tasks quickly with minimal supervision
- Lead junior developers and provide proactive feedback to senior leadership
- Mitigate the impact of technical decisions across the entire product
- Drive and manage design conversations for features considering business need
- Define and create artifacts/documents that are valuable to the team and external stakeholders
- Incorporate new approaches, languages, and technologies into the team
- Develop new features and support/fix existing features
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues across the whole stack – OS, DB, applications, JavaScript, and network; provide solutions for complex, ambiguous problems through multiple stacks and products
- Ensure quality of code within the team written or reviewed
- Contribute to defining and enforcing procedures, standards, and methodologies related to software development
- Serve as a role model and mentor other team members technically and culturally
- Follow industry trends and the open‑source community
- Interact with customers to gather insights and translate technical concepts
