As an experienced ODM Software Manager with expertise in the Android ecosystem, you oversee the entire software design flow, ensuring delivery of high‑quality software that meets business requirements and technical constraints. You act as a bridge between business needs and technical implementation, making decisions on technologies, frameworks, and overall system structure.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, design and guide the product team with software requirements. Provide feasibility studies and set correct expectations of features.
- Support product team to complete product design documents/specifications.
- Perform hands‑on technical audits, code reviews, and support troubleshooting in AOSP/HAL layers.
- Lead product feature development with ODM partners, driving technical implementation and maintenance throughout the software lifecycle.
- Manage software release roadmaps, technical scope, and the full lifecycle of critical issues using Jira/Gitlab to ensure transparency and technical velocity.
- Support other teams to validate bug reports and improvements, design solutions, and document analyses.
- Assess software capabilities of potential new ODM partners and provide reports and opinions on risks and benefits.
- Develop and communicate the software design vision and strategy for smartphone platforms to Fairphone’s ODMs.
- Ensure designs are consistent, coherent, and meet Fairphone product requirements.
- Bridge business requirements with technical implementation to create feasible and efficient solutions.
- Drive software quality, performance, and stability improvements through rigorous issue tracking and process optimization.
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with ODM partners to ensure timely delivery and high standards.
- Prioritize and champion software longevity by planning for long‑term OS support, security updates, and maintainability.
- Clarify and prioritize software issues and help ODM to resolve them effectively.
- Continuously improve software performance and quality by monitoring issue‑fixing processes and taking corrective actions.
- Set up and monitor software milestones with ODM, foresee potential risks, and ensure on‑time delivery with expected quality.
- Research and study new features to strengthen Fairphone products.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in the mobile (feature/smart) phones and telecommunications industry.
- Deep technical proficiency in Android architecture (AOSP, HAL, Kernel) with hands‑on debugging on mainstream mobile chipsets.
- Experience collaborating with ODMs and familiar with board bring‑up processes.
- Strong understanding of software design principles and ability to audit critical code.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good English and native Mandarin skills in writing and speaking.
- Proficiency with issue tracking systems (Jira preferred) for bug lifecycle management and project coordination.
- Experience in modem development and 3
GPP/ETSI protocol stack; supporting carrier IoT interoperability testing. - Experience in project/resource/budget planning, execution, and monitoring.
- Experience with code robustness tools such as Klocwork or Black Duck.
- Knowledge of AI/ML integration in Android (on‑device AI, NPU utilization).
- Experience with audio subsystem architecture (ALSA, Audio HAL) and audio‑related features.
- Proficiency with GNU/Linux operating systems.
