Position:
Programmer – DIVE Team (Data, Integration, Visualization, Evaluation)

Department: Academic Office of Informatics, Wake Forest University Health Sciences

Status: Full time

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Hours Per Week: 40

Work Schedule: 8:00 am–5:00 pm EST; on‑site encouraged, remote work possible.

Pay Range: $38.20–$57.30 per hour

Essential Functions
  • Attend project and departmental meetings and contribute to project design concerning data management needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty, team leads, and stakeholders to anticipate, define, and satisfy data needs.
  • Develop data preprocessing pipelines to ensure high‑quality input for models and algorithms.
  • Explore and integrate state‑of‑the‑art techniques, including machine learning, natural language processing, expert systems, and automation, to address research challenges.
  • Optimize and fine‑tune existing models to improve accuracy, efficiency, and performance.
  • Conduct thorough analyses and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions and provide insights for further improvements.
  • Document code, methodologies, and results for effective knowledge sharing.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
Education / Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and at least four years’ experience in computer programming or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience installing and maintaining personal computers is required.

Skills / Qualifications
  • Strong experience in Python or R programming.
  • In‑depth knowledge of artificial intelligence methods, usage, and performance evaluation, particularly machine learning models and natural language processing (NLP) data analysis.
  • Proficiency in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
  • Familiarity with Agile or a similar project management methodology.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills to translate complex technical details into effectively digestible explanations.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases.
  • Familiarity with medical data, standards, and terminology (a plus).
  • Experience working in a cloud environment (a plus).
