Description
We are seeking a self‑starter, collaborative, and independent Senior Service Now Developer to join the Division of Information Technology (DIT) team within the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). The ITSM team works closely with business partners to leverage expertise in website development, information architecture, usability and technology to deliver innovative technical solutions that support the agency’s services and business divisions.

As a Senior Service Now Developer at DSHS, you will play a central role in designing, developing and maintaining digital workflows that improve agency efficiency. You will transform complex business requirements into scalable, automated solutions on the Service Now platform while serving as a technical subject‑matter expert (SME) who ensures the platform delivers measurable business value. The developer is responsible for the full application development lifecycle – solution design, architecture, development, testing, deployment and ongoing optimization.
In this role you’ll collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements, translate them into technical solutions and implement workflows that streamline processes and enhance operational effectiveness across the organization.
The official workstation for this position is in Olympia and offers flexible hybrid remote work. You can be based anywhere in Washington State. Occasional travel may be required based on business needs.
Responsibilities- Customize user interfaces, portals and service catalogs using HTML, CSS and AngularJS to improve user experience and service delivery.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge and discretion to evaluate and resolve complex tasks such as constructing efficient applications using stored procedures, functions, server & user controls, and web services (SOAP, UDDI and WSDL) and standard libraries.
- Design, configure and maintain integration between Service Now and external systems using REST/SOAP APIs or Service Now Spokes and the Integration Hub to ensure seamless data exchange for business operations.
- Conduct peer code reviews of products developed by juniors or peers.
- Code, compile and test programs and databases to ensure design specifications are met.
- Consult with business owners/users to translate business requirements and offerings into system functionality and automation.
- Develop UI design, coding, testing and implementation of application components and web services.
- Develop and implement new applications, modules and workflows for various Service Now products (ITSM, HRSD, ITOM) by writing JavaScript or low‑code/no‑code, configuring business rules, UI policies and data lookups to automate and streamline business processes.
- Develop data policies, UI actions, business rules and client scripts to automate and standardize, ensuring SaaS applications align with business processes.
- Publish system workflows to automate business and IT support processes in support of agency‑wide service delivery.
- Utilize agency release management processes to ensure system features and changes are properly documented and tracked prior to official release. Use development environments to ensure modifications are properly tested before release.
- Coordinate with system administrators to ensure software and platform version releases are properly tested and approved prior to production release.
- Train business customers to effectively utilize application functionality, including knowledge and task management, ad‑hoc reporting and general usage.
- A bachelor’s degree including 9 semester or 15 quarter hours of computer science courses.
- Seven years of consultative, administrative or supervisory experience in information technology analysis, system maintenance, application development, troubleshooting/problem resolution or designing, programming computer systems applications or databases.
