Cloud Engineer - Software, DevOps, Backend Developer
Overview
Guidewire is a leading software vendor for the property and casualty insurance industry, delivering core applications and cloud services via Guidewire Cloud on AWS. In this role you will help build and evolve our Kubernetes‑based cloud platform as a service, crafting microservices, automation tools, and infrastructure that enable our customers to innovate quickly.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain microservices, components, and tools that automate the lifecycle of highly available distributed services across multiple platforms.
- Engineer quality, scalability, availability, and security into code, applying automated testing, CI/CD, and containerization best practices.
- Deploy containerized applications to AWS, leveraging Kubernetes (EKS), Terraform, and related IaC tooling.
- Collaborate with operations, product managers, and architects to write code, mentor peers, and build infrastructure that matters.
- Apply advanced observability techniques, including distributed tracing, monitoring, and log management.
- Advocate for IaaS abstractions, container technologies, and cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Promote proven architectures (SOLID, hexagonal) and design principles throughout the codebase.
- Embrace AI and data‑driven insights to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- 4-6 years of professional experience in cloud and microservices development.
- Strong understanding of REST or gRPC APIs for data interchange.
- Experience with microservices architecture concepts such as service discovery, API gateway, and container orchestration.
- Proficiency in at least one of Java, Golang, Node.js, or Python.
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and AWS services.
- Solid debugging skills on Linux environments.
- Knowledge of architecture patterns (SOLID, hexagonal) and design principles.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
- Additional language/framework expertise in Java, Golang, Node.js, or Python.
- Experience with other container or cloud platforms (Mesos, Cloud Foundry, Open Shift, GCP, Azure, Serverless).
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team‑first mindset.
- Comfort working in an agile, social, and fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with observability tooling for logs, metrics, and traces.
- US base salary range: $124,000 – $210,000 (depends on experience, skills, and location).
- Full‑time benefits package including health, dental, vision, paid time off, and a company‑sponsored retirement plan.
- Eligibility for annual bonus plan, commissions, and long‑term incentive awards based on performance.
- Hybrid work model with flexibility to work from home as appropriate.
