About the Role
Planet’s Mission Control is a web-based application that empowers spacecraft operators and analysts to monitor, control, and study our growing fleet of satellites. The system is supported by a set of distributed microservices that handle scheduling, tasking, telemetry processing, and other operational needs. You will be part of a team that builds, maintains, and operates these tools to enable seamless satellite operations.
This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States or Canada. If located near one of our offices, you are expected to work from that office three days per week.
Responsibilities- Own and augment the automation and services that operate Planet’s satellites.
- Manage cloud-based infrastructure services and tooling to meet internal needs and support customer-facing service‑level agreements.
- Evaluate and choose appropriate software technologies and deployment strategies.
- Design and deploy critical infrastructure components.
- Collaborate with Satellite and Ground Operations, Pipeline, Product, and other teams to ensure the constellation meets all mission needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience building cloud‑based services using AWS or GCP.
- Experience maintaining infrastructure with Ansible, Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, Git Lab CI, and related tooling.
- Strong Python programming skills.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Attention to quality, automated testing, code review, and documentation.
- Proficient Linux skills.
- Self‑starter; ability to solve problems in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Requires access to export‑controlled information; must comply with export regulations.
- Experience in API design.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog or Sentry.
- Experience working in microservice environments.
- Knowledge of aerospace concepts.

US base salary range: $127,000—$158,700 USD (national). Additional discretionary short‑term and long‑term incentives may be offered. Location‑based ranges:
New York City + California $153,000—$191,400;
San Francisco $144,500—$180,600.
