AI Engineer (Applied/Software), Backend Developer
Senior Developer - AI Security & Infrastructure Two open positions
· One starting now
· One in August
· Finland or Sweden
· Remote-first
You've spent years being excellent at your craft. You've also spent years watching that craft get buried under tickets, approval chains, and decisions made by people who've never written a line of production code.
We get it. We built Roder because we were tired of it too.
Roder is an AI security and governance platform – a high-performance gateway that sits between organizations and every AI model they use, providing real-time threat detection, prompt injection prevention, traffic management, data sovereignty enforcement, and full audit trails. Think of it as the security layer that enterprises need before they can trust AI at scale.
We're building this in Rust. Fast, correct, and uncompromising – just like the security problems we're solving.
We're hiring two senior engineers. One position starts immediately. The other starts in August. We don't have two rigid role descriptions, because we believe the right people define the role – not the other way around.
The Role in a Nutshell- Permanent positions – one starting now, one in August
- Remote‑first – work from anywhere in Finland or Sweden. We meet in person occasionally, not constantly. When we do, we expect you there.
- Salary – competitive, based on your experience. We won't win on pure salary against the big consulting factories, but we offer something they never will: a genuine stake in what we're building.
- Equity – We want you to share in our success. Every employee joins our stock option program once they've successfully settled into their role. We have massive ambitions and are on a path to build something truly significant – a rare opportunity you won't find elsewhere to become a true part of Roder and reap the future rewards of our success.
You'll Be Working On
Depending on your background and strengths, you'll take ownership across one or more of these areas:
- Designing and building Rust‑based backend services powering our AI security gateway – high‑throughput, low‑latency, production‑grade
- Architecting and maintaining networking and gateway infrastructure – Layer 7 routing, traffic management, rate limiting, multi‑provider AI routing
- Owning security engineering – prompt injection detection, ML‑based threat models, content filtering, PII detection, data exfiltration prevention
- Building and improving Kubernetes‑based infrastructure – deployment pipelines, container orchestration, observability, resilience
- Participating in technical decision‑making from day one – architecture, tooling, development practices. No committee. No hierarchy to navigate. Your ideas land directly.
- Driving our agentic development practices – we build with AI agents, we automate aggressively, and we expect you to be actively pushing this forward, not tolerating it
We're not looking for someone who fits a checklist. We're looking for a specific type of person. You probably recognize yourself here:
You must have:
- Proven senior‑level engineering experience – you've shipped real systems that real people depend on
- Strong containerization experience – Kubernetes is our standard, Docker and equivalent experience works
- Genuine comfort working in or learning Rust – you don't need to be a Rust expert on day one, but you need to be genuinely excited about it, not reluctant
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals – gateways, proxies, API security, protocols
- EU residency and eligibility to work in Finland or Sweden
You're the right fit if you:
- Understand why Agentic SDLC matters and have already started thinking about or practicing it
- Use AI tools as a natural part of how you work – not as a gimmick, not as a crutch, but as a genuine force multiplier
- Are equally comfortable in security, backend, or infrastructure – or bring deep expertise in one and curiosity about the others
- Prefer shipping over meetings
- Have opinions about architecture and aren't afraid to voice them
This is not for you if:
- You believe the future of software development looks like the last 10 years
- You want a clear org chart to know whose approval you need
- “Remote‑first” to you…
