SR Application Engineer -Hybrid​/Remote

National Interstate Insurance Company (a division of Great American Insurance Group) is looking for a Senior Application Engineer to join their team.

Location:

The role will be hybrid from the Richfield, OH office (2 days per week) or fully remote from the USA if not local. Employees are expected to be on‑site a minimum of two days a week, with the potential to work three days remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday and Wednesday but may vary based on business needs.

• Design, program, build, and deploy software applications and systems that support various business and insurance processes.
• Drive implementation of new features and functionalities based on business requirements, enhancing overall user experience.
• Ensure seamless integration of new applications with existing systems, minimizing disruptions.
• Support software testing, deployment, maintenance, and evolution activities by correcting programming errors, responding to scope changes, and coding enhancements.
• Develop technical specifications from conceptual design and stated business requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design integration solutions that enhance data flow and system interoperability.
• Monitor and optimize application performance, identifying and resolving issues that may impact system efficiency.
• Conduct regular performance assessments and implement improvements to ensure applications run smoothly.
• Provide technical support to end‑users, addressing and resolving application‑related issues in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain documentation for troubleshooting procedures and best practices.
• Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
• Provide regular updates on project status and progress.
• Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance overall system performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering and/or application engineering.
• Experience with .NET/C#, SQL, full‑stack development, and test automation is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in multiple programming languages.
• Advanced experience with cloud platforms and modern development frameworks.
• Extensive experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to develop time estimates and project management elements for complex deliverables.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex software issues.
• Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and their software engineering implications.
• High level of understanding of organizational business and technology operations.

• Salary Range: $95,000.00 – $.
