Senior Build & Server Engineer - Personal Media

As a Senior Build & Server Engineer on the Personal Media team, you will work across the two key areas that keep Plex Media Server running: the C++ codebase that powers the product, and the build and release pipeline that delivers it to millions of users on dozens of platforms. You will help maintain and modernize the build system and toolchain (Conan, CMake, cross‑compilation tool chains, Git Hub Actions) while also writing server code that relies on this infrastructure, ensuring both sides stay in sync.

• Develop and maintain features in the Plex Media Server C++ codebase alongside server engineers, fixing bugs and reducing technical debt.
• Support and evolve our build system and toolchain, ensuring reliable builds on all supported platforms.
• Own the CI/CD pipeline in Git Hub Actions, covering building, packaging, artifact management, and release automation.
• Improve build, release, and artifact workflows, including tracking, release notes, and integration between tooling.
• Collaborate closely with build, server, client, and QA engineers to minimize friction between code changes and deployments.
• Assist with release engineering tasks such as creating alpha, beta, and public builds, and managing signing and distribution (Apple code signing and notarization for macOS).

• Solid C++ experience in a large, long‑lived codebase, with comfort in SQL/databases and scripting (Python, shell) for automation.
• Hands‑on experience with build systems and dependency management, particularly CMake and Conan, and a knack for simplifying complex builds.
• Comfortable owning a CI/CD pipeline end‑to‑end; experience with Git Hub Actions is a plus.
• Familiarity with cross‑compilation and platform tool chains (Clang/LLVM, MSVC, Android NDK, musl, etc.). Knowledge of containers or infrastructure‑as‑code (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) is a bonus.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, working across diverse teams and environments.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US and Global geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $100,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $160,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location, seniority, local currency and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
