Job Description & How to Apply Below

Engineering Manager At Doctrine

Chez Doctrine, we are building the leader of legal AI in Europe.

Our conviction? Law should not be slowed down by repetitive tasks. It should be augmented by specialized AI, designed to understand, analyze, and produce legal reasoning with a high level of exigence.

Our ambition? To enable legal professionals to gain in reliability, efficiency, and serenity, thanks to a unique, comprehensive, and secure platform.

Today, 27,000 legal professionals, distributed in five countries (France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg), trust us.

Our development is guided by a clear approach: a global vision, rooted in a fine understanding of local specificities.

Behind this ambition, a team of about 250 people, gathered around a common objective: to support lawyers and attorneys at all stages of their work, from analysis to writing.

And we are just at the beginning.

The Context

The Engineering team at Doctrine is organized in hybrid squads, where software engineers and ML engineers collaborate on complex problems. As an Engineering Manager, you will join the Productivity squad, whose mission is to transform the way legal professionals manage their files, especially for their litigation matters: tools that simplify the analysis and writing of their documents, from end to end, across Europe.

Productivity manages a fairly recent and very dynamic product line 's an ideal terrain for an EM who wants to have a direct and visible impact.

Our stack relies on Node / React / Python / Pytorch / NLP / LLM and AWS. You can find the detail of our stack on Git Hub.

The missions

  • Take charge of people management of your team: 1:1, feedback, development of people, management of tensions
  • Pilot the delivery: clear priorities, commitments kept, obstacles quickly lifted
  • Participate in technical decisions with the ability to get your hands in the code if necessary: challenge the choices of architecture, stack and technical debt by asking the right questions
  • Contribute actively to the EM Doctrine team on cross-cutting issues: engineering process, recruitment, technical culture
  • Navigate between ML and software: not an expert in both, but sufficiently technically grounded to remain relevant in both contexts
  • Work in close collaboration with the PM to prioritize features and arbitrate the needs of the squad

The ideal profile

  • Solid technical background: you have been a senior contributor before becoming an EM, not the other way around
  • At least 1 to 2 years of real management on a team of 5 to 6 people (1:1, feedback, performance management, difficult situations)
  • Comfortable navigating between ML and software: you can challenge an architecture decision in both domains without being the expert
  • Capable of managing a broad scope and a high volume of information in an interconnected and unstructured environment
  • From a startup or scale-up: you know how to function without a safety net and you don't need a formalized process to move forward
  • French and English Mandatory
What Awaits You If You Join Doctrine
  • Contribute to an ambitious project, with a real and positive impact on society: making law more accessible and open.
  • A very complete onboarding allowing for rapid integration and skill development.
  • An adventure in which training and knowledge sharing are part of the daily routine.
  • Join a company with a rich and dynamic team life: conferences, team-buildings, lunches, offsite, afterwork, etc.
Our Values

At Doctrine, our 4 values accompany us in our daily lives and in our ambition to make things happen.

  • Challenge the status quo: we defend bold ideas that contribute to the evolution of an entire sector.
  • Liberty and responsibility: we encourage autonomy, the impact of each person and ownership.
  • Knowledge is power: information is at the heart of Doctrine's mission, and we constantly seek to progress.
  • Release early, release often and listen to your customers: we believe in the power of iteration and the importance of constantly listening to our market, our clients and their problems.
