Principal Software Engineer - Foundation Software; Remote

Job Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer (Pr.) to lead the development, certification, and sustainment of foundation software for safety‑critical military applications within Collins Aerospace's foundation software team. The role involves managing impacts to foundation software resulting from hardware obsolescence and customer‑driven changes to fielded products. Work will focus on military avionics components that utilize PowerPC based systems running LynxOS‑178, including processing modules, ethernet nodes, and high‑integrity ethernet switch modules.

Location:

Remote (U.S. citizen or U.S. person required).

• Serve as the software project engineer, providing project management and technical direction throughout all program phases, including pursuit, bidding, planning, execution, and sustainment.
• Ensure consistency with Collins Aerospace technical engineering processes.
• Define development plans, ensure compliance with DO‑178 and other certification requirements, and lead certification efforts through audits.
• Lead and manage small development teams for software updates.
• Communicate technical progress, risks, opportunities, financial data, and other project management information clearly and concisely.

• Enhance technical skills in processing platforms and associated technologies.
• Develop leadership skills and the ability to manage and lead software development teams.
• Improve decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities in complex environments.

• Embedded C and foundation‑level software experience.
• Typically requires a STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience.
