The Role Sherlock Talent is hiring a SQL Developer to build an internal data intelligence platform — a database application that turns procurement documents into structured, queryable competitive intelligence. You'll design, build, and evolve the database layer in a purely Microsoft / Azure Cloud environment. You'll own the schema: designing new entities, refactoring legacy structures, and building the data foundation that powers AI-driven document ingestion and analytics.
This is a hands-on build role. You'll work from detailed design references and real-world document cases, translating business rules directly into clean, enforceable database structure.
- Design and implement relational schemas in Azure SQL — new tables, new fields, and controlled extensions to existing reference data
- Refactor and consolidate legacy structures: merging duplicate entities, deprecating obsolete fields, and migrating data without breaking downstream dependencies
- Build normalized designs using lookup/reference tables, junction tables, and multi-level parent-child hierarchies with proper foreign keys and cascade rules
- Design audit and import-logging structures that capture full traceability for every data load — status states, error detail, user attribution, and raw payloads for reprocessing
- Support an AI-assisted document extraction pipeline: schemas that store raw AI output, staging/validation states, and alias-mapping structures for fuzzy entity matching
- Integrate with Azure Blob Storage — modeling document references and validated output artifacts at the schema level
- Implement data-quality logic at the database layer: computed aggregates, statistical fields (averages, standard deviation), and automated outlier flagging
- Get data typing right: correct numeric precision for financial values, proper handling of ranges, flags, and timestamps
- Model role-based access (edit vs. read-only) at the data level
- Strong T-SQL: DDL, constraints, foreign keys, cascade behavior, indexing
- Proven Azure SQL Database experience — this is a 100% Microsoft/Azure environment
- Schema design and refactoring in live systems: you've consolidated entities, deprecated fields, and versioned schema changes cleanly
- Deep fluency in normalization patterns: lookup tables, junction tables, one-to-many and many-to-many relationships
- Experience designing audit trails and import/ETL logging structures
- Precision with data types — especially DECIMAL handling for pricing/financial data and the pitfalls of integer truncation
- Ability to read a technical design reference and implement it faithfully, flagging conflicts and gaps rather than improvising silently
- Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting AI/LLM extraction pipelines (storing raw JSON responses, validation workflows, human-in-the-loop review states)
- Azure Blob Storage integration patterns
- Data validation and staging workflows (pending ? review ? complete life cycles)
- Statistical computation in SQL (aggregates, deviation, outlier detection)
- Exposure to procurement, bidding, or pricing-data domains
- Environment
- Microsoft stack only:
Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Cloud services - Remote, part-time contract with flexible hours, EAST COAST REGULAR OFFICE HOURS Meeting time required
- Direct collaboration with the platform development team; design references provided
