Backend Developer
Akkodis is seeking a mainframe developer for one of our clients in Dearborn, Michigan.
Rate Range: $45.00/hour to $55.00/hour; the rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced mainframe developer to support and enhance a suite of enterprise applications. This role serves as the lead mainframe developer, responsible for maintaining application stability, supporting ongoing operations, delivering new functionality, and contributing to long‑term modernization initiatives.
The successful candidate will work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, engineers, business stakeholders, and external vendors to deliver solutions that meet business objectives while supporting the transition of applications toward Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Key responsibilities include providing production and on‑call support, developing and implementing required compliance and enhancements, managing and executing backlog priorities, and supporting defect triage and resolution efforts. The engineer will also participate in modernization initiatives, collaborate across technology teams, and help ensure applications continue to deliver meaningful value to both business users and customers.
In addition, this role involves application support activities such as system maintenance, security and audit reviews, troubleshooting production issues, performing unit and integration testing, and ensuring reliable system performance across both real‑time and batch processing environments.
The working arrangement is 4 days on‑site and 1 day work‑from‑home.
Please note, we are not able to work on C2C basis for this role.
Requirements- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mainframe application design, development, analysis, and support.
- Strong technical expertise with COBOL (IMS), JCL, CA7, DB2, COBOL Stored Procedures, and batch and real‑time processing environments.
- At least 2 years of experience implementing and supporting z/OS Connect, SFTP, SOAP APIs, REST APIs, and other system‑to‑system integration technologies.
- Proven ability to design, develop, maintain, and support Mainframe COBOL and JCL applications.
- Experience with source code management tools such as Endeavor and Git Hub.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot incidents, resolve production issues, and support business‑critical applications with minimal supervision.
- Experience performing application support functions, including system maintenance, security reviews, audit support, and operational support activities.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues in a global environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively balance work based on business impact and urgency.
- Experience with unit testing and integration testing methodologies.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and proactively address unexpected challenges.
- Experience with Google Big Query and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
