The Principal/ Senior Embedded Software Engineer will design and implement software for all embedded devices and systems required to deliver the SynerG™ CGM system in any of its embodiments, e.g. CGM infusion-set, patch pump or port and work closely together with the electrical engineering and sensor development teams to make effective decisions on firmware requirements for hardware. He/She will directly work with the Director of Sensor Development, the Principal Electrical Engineer and the Manager of Sensor Engineering.

He/She will interact with team members throughout organization and needs to be able to communicate own work and its interdependencies with others effectively in regular group meetings. The position is based in either Portland, OR or can be performed hybridly or remotely from the West Coast with monthly visits to the Portland HQs.

Key Duties, Activities and Responsibilities:

• Designs and implements software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment
• Designs, develops, codes, tests and debugs system software
• Reviews code and design
• Analyzes and enhances efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources
• Integrates and validates new product designs
• Supports software QA and optimize I/O performance
• Provides post production support
• Interfaces with hardware design and development
• Assesses third party and open source software
• Supporting and developing rapid iterations of the algorithm and its embedding into software for benchtop testing and clinical validation
• Identifying, analyzing and resolving issues that will advance CGM state of the art.
• Developing intellectual property/know how

Work Experience, Skills and

Education Required:

• Proven working experience in software engineering
• Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded targets
• Solid programming experience in C or C++
• Proven experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems
• Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review
• Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces and hardware subsystems
• Adequate knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for components
• Strong documentation and writing skills
• Technical Bachelor degree (Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, Physics, or equivalent) w/ 6+ years work experience, with ideally at least 1 year with body worn device experience in medical devices or similar
• Technical Master’s degree with 4+ Yrs. proven experience, with ideally at least 1 year with body worn device experience in medical devices or similar
• Exceptionally self-motivated and directed. Energetic, forward-thinking and creative with high ethical standards.
• Good communication skills with all levels of the organization, multi-tasking, and good problem solving skills. Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
• Able to adjust to changing priorities and schedules.
• Must be able to travel (25% + of their time each month) if joining remotely
