What Your Job Will Be Like:
Organization 05442, Navigation Guidance & Control (NGC), is currently seeking a Flight Software Engineer to join their team.
The selected candidate will contribute to an embedded flight software product for hypersonic strike applications with over a decade of successful flight test pedigree. The baseline software product for the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, developed by NGC staff, requires integration of emerging technologies based on a planned series of block upgrades. Efforts will focus on embedded software development activities enabling the integration of new capabilities, algorithms, and avionics devices.
The Dev Ops culture of Organization 05442 enables staff to contribute to all areas of software design, development, and test.
Successful candidates will collaborate with sister NGC organizations who focus on low-to-mid Technology Readiness Level (TRL) technologies. These organizations are managed as a team and the unified goal is to mature NGC technologies from concepts to integrated flight system solutions. One has opportunities to contribute at each TRL as technologies are matured with the final system application in mind.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:
Implement the software development lifecycle process for Sandia's contributions to hypersonic flight systems
Develop embedded software for highly reliable real-time flight systems
Write device drivers for real-time operating systems and integrate new avionics components with NGC software hosted on the flight computer
Assist with software development associated with software test fixtures such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) test assets
Develop CI/CD solutions and develop/maintain cross-platform build systems
Support system-level hardware testing including participation on-console with Assembly, Integration, and Test teams
Architect and implement software test methodologies
Contribute to software architecture design and development
Coordinate and collaborate with external program partners to meet program-level objectives and deliverables
* Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$117,500 - $235,700
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
DOE Q security clearance or equivalent required to start.
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D Computer Systems candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
Graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
Experience installing, configuring, integrating, and deploying new hardware and software within existing systems.
Experience in systems administration within Unix/Linux and/or Windows environments.
Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools (e.g., Agile).
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and a passion to improve and expand technical skills.
