Task Description Wayfair is tasked with envisioning and enforcing novel technology‑pushed solutions to shape the future of retail. We apply rising technology to resolve present customer‑demands on today’s systems (including mobile, web, and physical retail) and discover the evolution of retail on newer platforms (such as visual computing). We view the panorama of purchaser issues from a broad perspective, fostering uncommon programs that solve a hassle in every other domain.
We intend to dictate consumer behavior trends by building cutting‑edge solutions that don’t merely adapt to them.
- Discover and develop standards in the home & retail domain using emerging technologies (new interaction tech, augmented reality, visual computing, and device learning).
- Identify high‑impact opportunities and build prototypes that leverage state‑of‑the‑art technology to validate concepts incrementally.
- Deliver compelling case studies that unravel ambiguity/complexity and showcase the impact of your work, while pursuing high‑difficulty problems through rapid prototyping.
- Coordinate, help, and explore efforts with internal stakeholders and external partners (including Magic Leap, Google, Adobe, and others).
- Participate in the tech & creative network by publishing blogs/papers, delivering talks, collaborating on panel discussions, or engaging in external outreach that amplifies Wayfair’s tech/innovation brand.
- Offer technical guidance and collaborate throughout Wayfair’s product, engineering, and enterprise groups for methodology, design, implementation, and release. Own tasks from ideation to shipping, speaking on scope, ownership, risk, and deliverables.
- A skill for thriving in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Understanding of prototyping and agility in navigating complex projects while adapting to rapid change.
- A broad toolbox (multidisciplinary technologist) fearless of new domains and able to learn required tools on the fly.
- A demonstrable record of turning concepts into reality in a team setting—ideation, case building, persuasion, prototype validation, feedback incorporation, and driving initiatives to successful outcomes.
- At least 8+ years of professional R&D experience, with a portfolio demonstrating breadth of concept‑driving work at the intersection of design, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
- OR, a master’s/PhD in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, human‑computer interaction, or equivalent, with at least 7 years of industry R&D experience in multidisciplinary environments.
- Entrepreneurial mindset that considers, evaluates, and executes beyond engineering and innovation.
Applicants may be based in Toronto, Boston, Seattle, or Mountainview and will be expected to adhere to their team’s hybrid studio schedule.
