What we do:- Generate virtual payment cards backed by debit cards or bank accounts
- Enable users to set spending limits, pause cards, and close them instantly

The technical challenge:Building a secure, reliable payments product requires solving complex problems at the intersection of fintech infrastructure, security, user experience, and regulatory compliance. You'll work with real-time transaction processing, fraud detection, payment network integrations, and systems that need to be both fast and bulletproof.

Job Descriptionis hiring a Staff Software Engineer to scale to meet the needs of our growth. You will split your time between being hands on coding as well as demonstrate technical leadership in evolving the platform for scale.
You will become an expert in card payments, solve distributed systems problems at scale, make architectural and product decisions, and mentor other engineers. The team is distributed across the US and Europe. The stack is predominantly NodeJS, Document DB and hosted in AWS.
Job responsibilities:- Ensure high reliability and correctness for card processing
- Understand the challenges of the current system and propose step function changes to future architecture
- Drive large multi-month initiatives and roadmap.
- Ensure that the team is delivering reliable, secure, and scalable code.
- Lead efforts to improve system and processes within the team and across engineering
- Help drive strategic planning in collaboration with engineering, product, and cross-functional leaders.
- Make tradeoffs between long term investment and delivering on immediate product value
- Participate in team on-call rotations
- 8+ years of experience shipping code in a fast paced production environment
- Experience building event-based and advanced distributed systems
. - Strong sense of ownership and accountability for your work
- Technical lead for a small team
- Driven large multi-month migration/re-architecturing projects
- Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers on distributed systems patterns and best practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (designers, PMs, operations)
- Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for learning
The annual US salary range for this role is $200,000 - $220,000 plus equity. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Lithic and will be narrowed during the interview process based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
