Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Service Now Automated Test Engineer to support the VA ESOM Service Now Operations and Maintenance program. This role owns automated test coverage using Service Now Automated Test Framework (ATF) to validate releases, upgrades, new features, and configuration changes before production.

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on Service Now and ATF expertise and can independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and improve automated regression testing while collaborating with developers, business analysts, and release management teams in an Agile sprint and release environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, maintain, and execute automated test suites and reusable test steps using Service Now Automated Test Framework (ATF).
  • Develop ATF coverage for new features, configuration changes, enhancements, and platform upgrades.
  • Execute automated regression testing before production releases and semi-annual Service Now platform upgrades.
  • Integrate ATF testing into release management, CI/CD, and Dev Ops workflows.
  • Analyze automated test failures, troubleshoot issues, and work with developers to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain test data, test environments, configuration baselines, and other dependencies required for reliable automated testing.
  • Translate user stories, business requirements, and acceptance criteria into automated ATF test scenarios.
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, release managers, and other stakeholders throughout the sprint lifecycle.
  • Track and report automated test coverage, pass/fail trends, defects, and release-readiness metrics.
  • Perform supplemental manual testing when automation is not technically feasible or cost-effective.

  • Experience creating logical and functional automated test scripts across multiple Service Now modules and use cases.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies, automation strategies, risks, and appropriate testing approaches across different functional environments.
  • Working knowledge of Service Now platform architecture and core modules such as ITSM, ITOM, CSM, or similar modules.
  • Experience troubleshooting failed automated tests and isolating application, configuration, environment, or test-script issues.
  • Experience using defect tracking and test management tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
