Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&N 40-40.

Example of DutiesUnder supervision, this position serves as a lead person, provides lifesaving services and maintains aquatic facilities as required; provides supervision of participants to ensure the safety of all persons using the Municipal swimming or waterfront area; communicates information to coworkers, immediate supervisor and the public; provides a wide variety of water safety instruction to children and adults; responsibilities also include performing facility and ground security and performing duties related to maintaining swimming pool and waterfront water quality standards.

- year lifeguard experience and experience as a swim instructor.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at time of hire.
- American Red Cross First Aid Certification at time of hire.
- American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Professional Rescuers at time of hire.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification at time of hire.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification at time of hire.
- Certified Pool/spa Operator Certification or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification at time of hire.
- Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
- Some positions may require a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Training.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
