Anticipated Salary $18.1918-$24.4464. This position is eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive. Grade: 14 - 19. Closing Date:

This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public and to be courteous, considerate, and prompt in dealing with and serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.
Responsibilities- Highway Operations Worker: entry level position; duties include operation of motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care and preservation, roadside shoulder restoration and repairs, signing and striping, delivery of equipment and materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care.
- Highway Operations Tech 1: apprentice classification; trained to perform more advanced duties including the listed items above.
- Highway Operations Tech 2: journey classification; perform a broad scope of intermediate level highway operational duties and/or lead responsibilities; may include scheduling, assigning, overseeing subordinates work, inspecting work, training, and guiding staff.
- Highway Operations Tech 3: full journey classification; high-level highway operation duties and/or supervisor responsibilities, including the duties listed above and potential leadership responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) are aligned with the series; duties include scheduling, assigning, inspecting, training, and guiding staff as noted above.
- Highway Operations Worker
: 6 months of roadway/highway-related experience (as determined by area needs) including operating motorized vehicles and heavy-duty equipment, signing/striping, pavement care and preservation, roadway operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care and preservation. - Highway Operations Tech 1: 1 year of related roadway/highway experience; similar duties as above.
- Highway Operations Tech 2: 2 years of related roadway/highway experience; similar duties as above; may include supervisory tasks.
- Highway Operations Tech 3: 3 years of related roadway/highway experience; similar duties as above; may include supervisory responsibilities.
Selective Preferences
- Highway Operations Worker Requirements: Must obtain Arizona CDL (Class
A) within 90 days of hire and a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire. - Highway Operations Tech 1-3 Requirements: Arizona Class A CDL (manual or automatic) and a tanker endorsement required prior to start date; additional endorsements may be required based on location.
- Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is required for all CDL holders; selected candidates must register and authorize ADOT to conduct limited CDL queries during employment. Register sa.dot.gov.
- The position responds to emergency call outs (24/7); must be able to respond to the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes.
- Work location may involve extremes of cold and heat, significant time away from home base, rugged terrain, and high-speed traffic conditions.
- Must lift/carry – push/pull 50 lbs.
- All newly hired state employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
