Southern Aviation Transport is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Night Shift Dispatcher to support overnight operations, driver communication, customer updates, and time-sensitive transportation needs. This position is responsible for monitoring active loads, communicating with drivers, responding to after-hours issues, coordinating updates, and ensuring freight moves safely and efficiently throughout the night.
Schedule and Work ArrangementThis position will begin with in-office training for several weeks, generally from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
After training, the position will transition to the regular night shift schedule of 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM. The role is intended to cover overnight dispatch needs and may require the employee to be available and responsive throughout the assigned shift.
Once the employee has completed training and is fully comfortable with the role, they will also be included in the company’s rotating weekend schedule. Weekend coverage will be assigned on a rotating basis with other qualified dispatch staff and may include monitoring calls, assisting drivers, providing customer updates, and handling time-sensitive operational needs.
After the in-office training period, this position may be performed remotely, provided the employee has:
- Reliable high-speed internet access.
- A quiet and professional workspace.
- The ability to answer calls, emails, and messages promptly.
- The ability to remain alert, responsive, and available during the assigned shift.
- A working backup plan in case of internet, power, or phone issues.
A company computer and company cell phone will be provided.
CompensationThis is a salaried overnight dispatch position
. The role includes scheduled night shift coverage, after-hours dispatch responsibilities, and rotating weekend coverage once trained.
Pay classification, compensable time, and any overtime requirements will be handled in accordance with company policy and applicable Florida and federal wage-and-hour requirements.
Required Qualifications- Dispatch, logistics, trucking, aviation, transportation, or customer service experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work overnight hours consistently.
- Ability to participate in rotating weekend coverage once trained.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
- Comfortable using phones, email, dispatch software, GPS/tracking tools, and basic computer systems.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Reliable high-speed internet access for remote work after training.
- Must be dependable, professional, and responsive during the assigned shift.
- Experience in trucking, freight, logistics, aviation transport, or emergency/after-hours dispatch.
- Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA rules and transportation terminology.
- Experience working with professional drivers.
- Ability to handle urgent issues, delays, and schedule changes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to use a company-provided cell phone and computer throughout the shift.
- Ability to communicate clearly by phone, text, and email.
- Must maintain reliable internet service if working remotely.
- Must be able to respond promptly to calls, messages, and operational needs during assigned hours.
The Night Shift Dispatcher is expected to be dependable, alert, and available throughout the assigned shift. This role is critical to maintaining overnight operations and supporting drivers while most of the office is closed. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, organized, trustworthy, and able to make responsible decisions when issues arise.
The employee must be able to work independently, communicate clearly, document issues accurately, and follow company procedures when escalating urgent matters to management.
