Position: Intermodal Coordinator (Truck)

Location:

Norfolk, VA, US

Responsibilities

Responsible for handling, monitoring, and coordinating shipments for door collection and/or delivery. Works collaboratively with internal and external organizations to include customers, truck vendors and CCA business teams to ensure Intermodal cargo is moved in an efficient and expedited manner. Follows standard operating procedures established by the Intermodal Department. Utilizes and maintains required work tools. Identifies and elevates problems or issues to management.

Functions

and Duties Dispatch
  • Analyze, plan and prioritize inland haulage according to import/export timetables, terminal/rail schedules, special equipment needs, and client-specific delivery conditions.
  • Facilitate the movement of containers that have been miss-routed and/or improperly discharged due to vessel by-passes, errors, or equipment emergencies.
  • Confirm and manage in-house truck availability.
  • Procure spot rates for lanes not previously negotiated with truck vendors.
  • Ensure over-the-road compliance for all hazardous door moves.
  • Create and issue work orders for the door collection and/or delivery in accordance with established truck rates and distribution percentages.
Service Delivery Coordination
  • Monitor shipments by tracking and tracing containers via multiple interfaces to ensure door appointments are met and cargo is loaded/delivered timely.
  • Communicate to customers of potential delays or issues preventing dispatch and maintain customer interactions until all delivery requirements are satisfied.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to expedite transport, including but not limited to:
  • Overseas Offices, Home office, Customer service, Operations, Sales, Trade.
  • Discern and elevate to management matters that require additional support.
  • Manage a significant volume of telephone and written communication within agreed upon Service Level Agreements.
Cost Management
  • Notify and invoice/rebill customers for additional transport related expenses including but not limited to:
    Pre-pulls, revenue generating trucker yard and container yard storage, multi stops, drop and picks.
  • Research and reconcile truck and customer invoice discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities through micro analysis of customer locations for cost savings, which includes match backs/one ways.
  • Determine, if requested by vendors, whether accessorial charges are applicable.
Vendor Management
  • Monitor and report trucker performance to Management.
  • Document pertinent dispatch-related information to maintain timely and accurate records.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with vendors.
MISCELLANEOUS RELATED DUTIES or PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED

Additional duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledgeable of Intermodal general operating procedures.
  • Proficient computer skills to include LARA and all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented person with strong organization skills.
  • Works collaboratively with team members.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills and passion.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Follows company policies and procedures.
Qualifications

High School Degree Required, Bachelor's Degree Preferred. General Experience 1-2 Years.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected salary range: $62,000 - $65,000 per year, based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
