Light Duty Technician II – DOT Management
Company:
Cox Automotive (Cox Fleet) – Indianapolis, with remote work allowed within the specified city, state or region.
Compensation:
Hourly base $29.38 – $44.09; commission or incentive program possible.
Light & Medium Duty Technician responsible for certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs and diagnostics on customer fleets (primarily gas vehicles) on a scheduled basis, with occasional emergency roadside service.
Responsibilities- Perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, and light repair work.
- Diagnose, adjust and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, power‑steering, transmission, engine electronics and other components.
- Use test instruments such as handheld computers, pressure gauges and other diagnostic tools.
- Document work order information, upload photos of work performed and parts used to Repair Orders via the company application.
- Communicate with management, team members, dispatch and customers through email, phone or Microsoft Office tools to obtain approvals, purchase orders and discuss work.
- Maintain safety, health and environmental policies and comply with OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations.
- Manage parts inventory on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Plan and execute work schedule independently, prioritizing tasks and adapting to emergencies.
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve customer concerns.
- High School Diploma or GED; 3+ years experience in a related field (light & heavy duty preferred). 5+ years acceptable.
- Proficiency with hand tools required for job duties.
- Valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining, or completion of DOT physical. Candidates with less than 4 months must complete a DOT physical.
- At least 21 years old; valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain a Driver Qualification File.
- Clean driving record with a 3‑year MVR review.
- Ability to pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and physical.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently.
- Minimum 6.67 hours paid time off per month; seven paid holidays.
