Solid Waste Equipment Operator I​/II; Underfill

Position: Solid Waste Equipment Operator I/II (Underfill Opportunity)
Performs manual labor and operates large sanitation truck picking up bulk items, brush and other debris on a sanitation route and/or repair and place refuse and recycling containers. Operates a large sanitation truck picking up brush and other uncontained debris on a solid waste route. Assists and directs assigned co-workers in loading material into truck.

Anticipated salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate's experience and internal equity.

Applicants that do not meet all the minimum requirements for the Solid Waste Equipment Operator II position may be considered for an underfill as a Solid Waste Equipment Operator I, depending on applicant qualifications.
If the position is underfilled, the salary offered would be commensurate with the lower level classification.  The minimum requirements for the underfill position are listed below in the minimum qualifications section.

Preferred:  Applicants considered for an underfill position should have, at minimum, a Class B CDL and be willing to obtain a Class A CDL with no air brake restriction.

Solid Waste Equipment Operator I (underfill)

Minimum Qualifications:

$22.82/hour - $30,83/hour ($26.81/hour midpoint)

Education and Experience

* Manual labor experience or experience operating a heavy truck and/or construction equipment.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

* Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.

* Must possess within 12 months from hire a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction. Individuals in a CDL position will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.

* Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Solid Waste Equipment Operator II (Class A CDL required)

Minimum Qualifications:

$25.16/hour - $33.99/hour ($29.55/hour midpoint)

Education and Experience

* Six months of experience operating sanitation, heavy truck, and/or construction equipment.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

* Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.

* Must possess and maintain, throughout tenure, a valid, unrestricted Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no air brake restriction at time of hire and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.

* Preferred:
Qualified on the rear end loader through Solid Waste Services.

* Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

* Operates large, rear-loading packer truck manually collecting brush and other debris on established routes.

* Drives load of packed material to landfill for disposal.

* Provides quality control by cleaning alleys and streets after brush is collected.

* Assists citizens and customers with service issues and concerns as needed.

* Provides educational information to customers verbally and through dissemination of printed materials.

* Completes CDL pre-flight safety inspection on vehicles at the beginning and end of the workday.

* Trains Equipment Operator I on operation of equipment and assigned routes.
