Position: Regional Fleet Maintenance Director (Remote)
Location: Northern

Job Summary:

The Regional Maintenance Director provides strategic leadership, oversight, and technical support for fleet and facility maintenance programs across all RATP Dev USA operating locations. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Maintenance, this role standardizes maintenance practices, ensures regulatory compliance, optimizes asset life cycles, and drives operational excellence. The Regional Maintenance Director acts as a key technical resource, partnering with local Maintenance Directors and General Managers to ensure fleets are safe, reliable, and cost-effective.

Travel: Ability to travel extensively (up to 70%) to various RATP Dev USA operational sites to conduct audits, support fleet mobilizations, and provide hands-on technical guidance.

Key Responsibilities Operational Oversight & Technical Support
  • Provide expert technical and operational guidance to local maintenance teams at all RATP Dev USA locations to maximize fleet availability and reliability.
  • Standardize preventative maintenance (PM) schedules, procedures, and quality control metrics across all locations.
  • Assist local sites with complex diagnostic troubleshooting, major campaigns, and root-cause analysis for chronic fleet issues.
  • Drive the successful rollout and adoption of green transit technologies, including Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), hydrogen fuel cells, and alternative fuel systems.
Strategic Asset Management & CMMS
  • Champion the use and optimization of our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track work orders, inventory, and asset performance.
  • Establish and monitor corporate maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Mean Distance Between Failures (MDBF), PM compliance, fleet availability, and cost per mile.
  • Partner with corporate procurement to evaluate fleet specifications, support the acquisition of capital assets, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Conduct regular site audits to evaluate the physical condition of fleet assets, facility equipment, and shop safety standards.
Compliance, Safety, and Training
  • Ensure all location maintenance programs comply with Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). OSHA, State, and local regulations.
  • Support locations through triennial audits, state management reviews, and other regulatory agency inspections.
  • Standardize and oversee corporate safety policies within maintenance shops, aiming for zero-harm work environments.
  • Lead corporate maintenance training initiatives, ensuring technicians have up-to-date certifications (ASE) and training on advanced vehicle systems.
Financial & Budgetary Support
  • Collaborate with local General Managers and Maintenance Directors to develop and review maintenance budgets, capital expenditure (Cap Ex) plans, and cost-containment strategies.
  • Analyze corporate-wide maintenance expenses to identify cost-saving opportunities through bulk purchasing, standard parts agreements, and labor efficiency improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements:

Education and Experience Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, logistics, transit management, or a closely related field. Equivalent combination of education and extensive experience may be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in heavy-duty transit maintenance (buses, rail, or paratransit fleets), with at least five (5) years in a multi-location, corporate, or regional supervisory capacity.
  • Proven track record of managing maintenance operations in a unionized environment.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy-duty transit buses, internal combustion engines (diesel, CNG), and zero-emission vehicles (electric/hybrid/BEV systems).
  • Expert-level understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing public transit maintenance (DOT, FTA Transit Asset Management (TAM), OSHA, etc.).
  • Advanced proficiency in transit CMMS software, fleet diagnostic tools, and reporting systems.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience preparing and monitoring multi-million dollar maintenance and capital budgets.
