- Engineering with our Engineering Departments. As an Engineering Intern you'll be working alongside our Engineering team in a fun and fast paced environment and be exposed to countless projects including the commercial, industrial, and residential development of 8,000 acres of land, which is estimated to bring in over 150,000 new residents to the City of Ontario over the next 30 years.
Join our team to learn and gain valuable experience within the Engineering Field and be a part of the many other notable projects moving forward in an effort to revitalize the City extending from the downtown area to the arena district. We are looking for team members that want to make a positive impact on the community while developing professional skills in the areas of Civil Engineering, Traffic/Transportation, Environmental Programs, Capital Improvement Projects and/or Land Development.
Interns will have the ability to observe and participate in a variety of tasks that support the overall operation of the assigned department.
The Ideal Candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of basic Civil Engineering principles.
- The capability to use AutoCAD and MS Office software programs;
- The ability to compile, organize, and analyze data and create reports and spreadsheets;
- When assigned to the Municipal Utilities Company, candidates will have the knowledge of engineering principles that pertain to hydraulics, pipe design, and operation and maintenance of municipal utilities
Successful candidates will have the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. The successful candidates will embody the City's mission and vision as well as the qualities of a "Five Tool Player" - Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant - and the City's Customer Service Philosophy – Empathy, Respect, and Problem Solving. Part-time/Temporary employees may be scheduled to work up to 29 hours per week and are not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.
The following procedures will apply:
- The City of Ontario reserves the right, if necessary, to accept only the first one hundred (100) applications from applicants that meet the qualification guidelines below.
- Completed applications will be reviewed and only qualified applicants whose qualifications best meet or exceed the requirements of the position and needs of the City will be invited to participate further in the selection process.
The City of Ontario Engineering Department, under the direction of the City Engineer, serves the needs of the citizens of Ontario by providing professional engineering services to the community and City government. The Department is dedicated to maintaining the highest level of customer service and responsiveness which serves to characterize a business-friendly environment in serving our community. The Department is charged with the oversight, planning, designing, and implementation of infrastructure projects and the planning and permitting of all work within the public right-of-way.
