Information Technology Technician (Part-Time)

The Information Technology Agency has an exciting opportunity for a self‑motivated individual who understands that supporting end users is critical to the success of any information technology system. The Information Technology Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of technical support assignments supporting citywide information technology systems, as well as maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing computer systems, hardware, and computer peripherals.

Background Investigation

  • Your work history and experience are examined with regard to your dependability, relationships with fellow workers, trustworthiness, and general job performance.

  • The background investigation considers your management of personal finances (however, being in debt does not automatically disqualify you).
  • Your criminal, driving, and insurance records are evaluated. Felony convictions will be grounds for disqualification from the selection process.
Essential Functions
  • Receive and respond to end‑user help desk requests; document requests in help desk software; provide technical support to end‑users.
  • Install, configure, maintain, update, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, personal computers (PCs), printers, and peripherals.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to higher‑level staff and assist with resolution as needed.
  • Provide instruction and training to end‑users in the operation of computer equipment and software applications.
  • Maintain service request records and knowledge base documentation, including ensuring all requests are accurately documented, updated, and completed in alignment with operational standards.
  • Track and maintain inventory of hardware and peripherals, including surplus and e‑waste equipment.
  • Configure and deploy mobile devices for end‑users.
  • Assist higher‑level staff with projects and related assignments.
  • Job responsibilities will require travel.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education

High school diploma or recognized equivalent.

Experience

One (1) year of professional work experience in the information technology field, with an emphasis on technical support.

Licenses
  • Valid Class C California driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable
  • Experience with municipal or other government operations.
  • A valid CompTIA A+ Certification or other Information Technology certifications in operating systems, networking, or related technologies.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Service Now.
