Location Profile:

Located in Ontario, CA, Summit Machine, LLC specializes in the rough and finish machining of super alloys for the aerospace, commercial, defense, power, and petroleum industries. Complex components include nickel base, titanium, stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steels with parts ranging in size from 2” OD – 120” OD.

Position Summary

The Level 1 Machinist operates 2-5 axis CNC lathe and/or mill machines, which requires machine setup including preparing and setting up fixtures and cutting tools, loading and adjusting CNC programs and offsets, performing inspections and basic preventative machine maintenance such as coolant and lube levels and area cleanliness. Competencies include the ability to use more advanced quality inspection tools and techniques.

Must be able to read prints and have experience with common CNC G and M codes. This position is designed to support 3rd shift operations (8:15pm – 4:45am, Sun - Thu), on VTL, HTL, or Mill machines with Fanuc controls. The selected individual may train on 1st shift from 5:00am – 1:30pm, M – F for approximately 3 months, or until able to demonstrate an ability to perform the job with minimal intervention.

Shift differential will apply upon schedule change if applicable. The selected individual may be asked to flex on other machines to support business needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work safely under functional safety guidelines such as PPE and equipment interaction.
  • Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines
  • Uses overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, and write or edit computerized machine control media
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
  • Works with others to help troubleshoot machine issues
