Job Title: ISP Technician I, II, III

Reports To: Construction Manager

Employment Status: Hourly (Non‑exempt)

We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role.

Job Summary

The ISP Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs ISP cabling. An ISP Technician must be able to install single‑mode and multimode fiber optic cabling and category 5e/6/6A copper cabling for business clients. This includes mechanical terminations with Uni‑cam, Fast‑cam, or likewise type connectors. Tasks include installing data and voice cable systems, raceway, conduit, racks, cabinets, cable suspension hardware, and other cable‑related equipment.

Other duties may include drilling/coring of walls and floors, cable placement and termination, setting ground cables, installing equipment, and troubleshooting any problems with the cable system. To ensure success as an ISP Technician, you should have a mid‑high‑level knowledge of low voltage systems and cable technology. You should be able to work in cramped spaces, and at heights, and interact with clients in a friendly and professional manner.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Foreman and/or Construction/Project Manager.
  • Work with onsite customer contact at the job site.
  • Read job documents and understand projects.
  • Execute work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cable infrastructure.
  • Perform maintenance on existing cabling systems.
  • Test newly installed or relocated cables.
  • Identify and remove redundant cabling.
  • Troubleshoot issues with the cable network.
  • Install cable support structures such as j‑hooks, cable racks, and innerduct.
  • Ensure all cables are neatly tied and bundled according to safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities
  • BICSI Installer Certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to install voice and data cabling.
  • Ability to install fiber optic cabling and terminate mechanical connections.
  • Ability to understand and operate testing equipment for troubleshooting and certifying purposes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with copper and fiber optic color codes.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle insurance.
  • Provide personal minor hand tools (such as screwdrivers, wire cutters, punch‑down tools, etc.).
  • Clean driving record and criminal record and ability to pass DOJ background checks for access into government and school facilities.
  • Mid to high‑level knowledge of installing and bending EMT conduit.
  • Microsoft Excel and work knowledge.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions.
  • Must maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Must work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Must stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Routine extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting.
  • Stand, walk, sit, or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time.
  • Work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear.

  • OSHA 10
ISP Technician I
  • Requires minimal supervision to perform work duties of an ISP Technician.
  • Possesses and maintains all required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations.
  • Possesses the necessary KSAs to perform all essential duties and responsibilities for ISP Technician.
ISP Technician II
  • Requires no supervision to perform work duties of an ISP Technician.
  • Possesses and maintains all required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations.
  • Proven mastery of all ISP Technician duties and responsibilities.
  • Possesses the ability to train ISP Technician I in essential duties and responsibilities.
