Broadband Technician (Part-Time)

The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity in supporting one of the fastest growing broadband fiber-optic networks. The City of Ontario's Broadband Operations Department is seeking a Broadband Technician to assist in the development and support of building and sustaining a broadband fiber optic infrastructure Citywide. The Broadband Technician, under general supervision, performs a wide range of specialized technical duties in the operation, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of the City's broadband communications network.

The Broadband Technician will be assigned with responding to regular, emergency and on-call support requests and maintaining accurate records of service.

This current vacancy within the Broadband Department of the Management Services Agency is for part time only and the eligibility list may be used for any full time and part time vacancies in the future.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
• Innovative thinking while approaching challenges with creativity and a solution-oriented mindset.
• Takes pride and ownership when managing assigned projects, and foster and maintain effective working relationships with employees, City officials, outside agencies, and the general public.

Additionally, the successful candidate will embody the qualities of a "Five Tool Player" - Leader, Thinker, Communicator, Operator and Public Servant - and the principles of the City's Customer Service Philosophy – Empathy, Respect, and Problem Solving.

The Broadband Technician is a paid, part-time/temporary position scheduled to work no more than 29 hours per week and is not eligible to participate in the City's health insurance or retirement plans.

The following procedures will apply:

• The Eligibility List will consist of both internal and external applicants who meet the qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes.
• The hiring department has the discretion to consider internal applicants on the Eligibility List prior to considering external candidates on the Eligibility List.
• The City of Ontario reserves the right, if necessary, to accept only the first one hundred (100) applications from applicants that meet the qualification guidelines below.
• Completed applications will be reviewed and only qualified applicants whose qualifications best meet or exceed the requirements of the position and needs of the City will be invited to participate further in the selection process.
