Material Handler

Job Summary:

• The Material Handler is responsible for operating a variety of material handling equipment for moving, locating, relocating, stacking and counting merchandise.
• Equipment may include forklifts, pallet jacks, slip sheets, and clamps.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient use of these vehicles.
• Responsible for order selection and checking as needed.

• Unloads inbound shipments safely and moves product to storage locations; efficiently stacks and stores product in the appropriate area(s).
• Prior to storage, counts all product, compares counts to the drivers manifest, and checks all shipments for damage, infestation and production code dates; reports shortages, damages and misplacements to the immediate supervisor who will forward the information to the appropriate parties.
• Pulls and prepares product for shipment; efficiently moves product from staging or storage areas into rail cars or trailers.
• Loads, unloads, moves, stacks and stages product and materials using a forklift, pallet jack, clamps, slip sheet or other power equipment.
• Inspects and verifies equipment is operating prior to the start of the day’s activity.
• Keeps appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained.
• Assists in physical inventories, ensuring proper stock rotation.
• Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area; assists in maintaining the security of the warehouse and conducts operations in a manner that promotes safety.

• Required Skills/Abilities:
  Ability to understand and follow English instructions; capable of following verbal and written instructions.
• Capable of operating facility material handling equipment (OSHA certified on forklifts, reach trucks, hand trucks) and their attachments.
• Basic understanding and utilization of RF scanning equipment.
• Good arithmetic skills; available for various shifts; maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to health & safety procedures.
• Follow company policies, procedures and guidelines; employ safe work practices.
• Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Forklift driver certification; forklift attachment(s) certification.

• Heavy lifting – lifting of 50 pounds or more.
• Stand for long periods of time (over 6 hours).
• Ability to work in a freezer environment for up to 6 hours.
• Exposure to loud warehouse noises and the need for accurate vision to perform duties.
