Job DescriptionSTAFF ACCOUNTANT-ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
Qualifications- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or GED plus an appropriate score on the Workkeys is required.
- Possession of an Associate’s Degree or higher degree in accounting from an accredited college or university, or 60 college credits from an accredited college or university plus an appropriate score on the Workkeys is preferred.
- A minimum of two to four years of accounting experience in accordance with performance responsibilities is preferred.
- Must possess bookkeeping skills that include familiarity with accounts payable, invoice processing, and inventory.
- Proficiency in computer keyboarding and ten-keypad operation.
- Must have adequate secretarial skills, which include the following components: letter writing skills and ability to type 45 to 50 wpms.
- Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Job GoalPrompt and accurate handling of all accounting matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
- Pay all General, Federal, Maintenance, Transportation, and Construction invoices, which includes:
- Open all invoices and match with purchase order.
- File invoices and purchase orders that are not ready for payment.
- Code invoices as needed.
- Input all invoices, print reports and audit for errors.
- Print checks, obtain necessary signatures and mail checks to vendor.
- Insuring invoice is dated after the purchase order date.
- Process all Purchase Orders after Custodian of Funds and Superintendent sign, which includes:
- Mail original P.O. to vendor.
- File yellow copy in office files.
- Mail blue copy to Instructional Materials Supervisor.
- Mail pink and gold copies to originator.
- Process checks weekly.
- File printouts (batch listing, merge, projective, check register, and update).
- Work with vendors to obtain invoices, credits, and to correct unusual or incorrect charges.
- Work with schools and other personnel to obtain appropriate documentation.
- Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
- Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
- Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
- Perform any other pertinent assignment deemed necessary by the Chief School Financial Officer and/or the Superintendent to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the Accounting/Payroll Department.

Sustained data entry function could cause carpal tunnel syndrome and/or eye strain. Ordinary care and precaution are required. The employee must frequently lift and/or move a minimum of 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary, stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
