Qualifications
  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Must hold an appropriate Alabama Teacher Certificate with a secondary education endorsement for grades 7-12. Endorsements in English Language Arts, Health and Physical Education, or History/Social Studies endorsement preferred.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
  • Previous coaching experience preferred.
  • Preference may be given to specific sport coaching experience.
  • Preference may be given to individuals with teaching experience.
  • Must meet AHSAA coaching standards.
  • Valid first aid/CPR certificate required.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Background Check Required

(HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Job Goals
  • Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
  • Provide sports activity supervision, training and coaching to student athletes as assigned by the Athletic Director and assist the Athletic Director in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions Teaching
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with physical limitations of the location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Participates in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Reviews current developments, literature, and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensures adherence to safety procedures.
  • Follows federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
  • Performs any other pertinent assignment deemed necessary by the principal to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the classroom.
