Position Summary
The Senior Controls & Automation Engineer champions the development and support of the site’s production equipment controls and automation infrastructure. This role keeps abreast of current controls and automation technology, translates technology into opportunities, and provides a competitive advantage to Pharmavite.
Responsibilities- Manage the assigned production sites’ controls and automation systems, and oversee the development and delivery of the sites’ automation and controls capital plans.
- Seamlessly deliver controls and automation projects, ensuring a deep level of customer input and leveraging Pharmavite’s project management methodology and tools.
- Provide robust, timely support to manufacturing operations (approx. 15% of time), including occasional off‑hours support.
- Lead value creation by identifying, planning, and implementing new controls and automation systems.
- Facilitate implementation of controls and automation across multiple production sites as required.
- Stay current on controls and automation technology and evaluate its application to work centers throughout the Pharmavite manufacturing network.
- Ensure controls and automation projects are included in site capital plans and multi‑year master plans.
- Partner with functional groups such as Operational Excellence, Technical Operations SMEs, Engineering project managers and project engineers, IT, Operations team leaders, and Operations engineers.
- Support the development of technicians who are the first line of defense for control system faults.
- Lead controls and automation aspects of larger capital projects under a project manager.
- Provide leadership on controls and automation specifications, functional requirements, and ensure project controls meet user requirements.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- BA/BS in Electrical or Controls Engineering (or 10 years equivalent experience).
- Lean certification is a plus.
- 4–6 years of experience in a production environment with demonstrated capability on control systems (Allen Bradley, Rockwell, etc.).
- Proficiency in Allen‑Bradley PLC and HMI programming and configuration.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Rockwell required; Siemens, Automation Direct, or others acceptable).
- Experience with input/output device design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks (Ether Net/IP, Profinet, Modbus, UDP/TCP, etc.).
- Experience with robotic platforms and review/approval of project drawings; familiarity with AutoCAD drawing responsibilities.
- Experience with sensors, actuators, pumps, VFDs, and other industrial automation hardware.
- Understanding of PID loops, tuning, and feedback systems.
- Ability to read and create schematics, panel designs, and power distribution basics.
- Advanced troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems to diagnose and resolve complex automation failures.
- Development of troubleshooting standards, documentation, and diagnostic tools to improve team response time and system reliability.
- Collaboration with maintenance and operations teams to translate system faults into actionable fixes.
- High‑level problem‑solving using structured techniques.
- Leadership in cross‑site collaboration and standardization.
- Data collection, assessment, and translation into actionable business cases.
- Coaching and teaching technicians in controls technology fault finding and remediation.
- Team leadership and strong teamwork on large capital projects.
- Project management skills and ability to manage technology application across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven success in recognizing business needs and implementing technology solutions.
General office environment; ability to sit for long periods and move about an office. Exposure to moderate disagreeable elements.
TravelPeriodic travel may be required depending on business needs.
