Position Summary

Oversees maintenance, modification, and upgrade activities for combat vehicles and their subsystems. Provides leadership and technical direction to personnel performing installation of modification kits, prototype components, and engineering change packages. Supervises and coordinates prototyping efforts, including vehicle configuration changes, prototype fit‑ups, and engineering development builds. Manages diagnostics, metalworking, and shop‑level maintenance across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems. Ensures safe, efficient operations while collaborating closely with engineers, FSRs, and logistics staff to meet project requirements and maintain high standards of quality and readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of combat vehicle mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
  • Oversee installation of modification kits, upgrade packages, and engineering change orders, ensuring compliance with technical standards and project requirements.
  • Direct integration of prototype components, experimental hardware, and emerging technologies to support developmental testing and engineering evaluations.
  • Lead prototyping activities, including system integration, iterative configuration changes, and component fit‑ups, while ensuring alignment with engineering guidance.
  • Manage teardown, repair, rebuild, reassembly, and functional testing of vehicle subsystems to maintain readiness and reliability.
  • Ensure safe, proper operation of drill presses, bending machines, machining tools, and other shop equipment, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Oversee crane and forklift operations for movement, staging, and handling of vehicle systems and components in accordance with safety standards.
  • Guide personnel performing light welding tasks for component repair and prototype fabrication.
  • Review and validate documentation of maintenance actions, configuration changes, prototype installations, and test results for accuracy and traceability.
  • Manage inventory, receiving, tracking, and staging of kits, prototype components, and repair parts to support ongoing maintenance and development activities.
  • Enforce OSHA-compliant safety practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the shop and prototyping environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or equivalent military training in electronics, automotive, or mechanical systems; advanced coursework or leadership experience preferred.
  • Extensive experience repairing combat vehicles or heavy mechanical/electrical systems, with the ability to mentor and guide maintenance personnel.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic subsystems and their interactions within combat vehicles.
  • Proven ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, engineering change packages, and modification kit installation instructions.
  • Hands‑on experience with diagnostic equipment, machining tools, cranes, forklifts, and welding operations, along with the ability to supervise safe and proper use.
  • Demonstrated ability to support engineering‑driven prototyping, iterative system development, and integration of new technologies in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior supervisory experience leading maintenance, prototyping, or vehicle integration teams in a military or defense‑focused environment.
